Many scholars have agreed that attitudes are influenced by a student’s self-image, expectations, and behaviors. However, as Alexander and Strain found, attitudes affect learning, while defining attitudes is difficult. Although attitudes are difficult to measure, measuring them is more reliable than using a word such as “attitude” to describe them.
Core skills of CS and IS students
The skills that CS and IS students develop can benefit a wide variety of careers. Regardless of one’s chosen field, such skills are essential in today’s technologically advanced society. By developing these skills, one can understand how technology operates and harness its power for the benefit of society. In a rapidly changing world, these skills are highly desirable. Fortunately, a quality CS education can prepare students for a variety of occupations.
The demand for CS workers is likely to exceed the supply without any promotion. However, fostering student engagement in CS and IS education is not the same as developing a generation of programmers or other tech professionals. Without the promotion of the field, the demand for CS workers will likely continue to outpace the supply, and there are currently no countries expanding access to CS education. Current efforts to engage students are geared toward teaching foundational skills and providing opportunities for exploration in technical fields.
Financial obligations of students
The financial obligations of students are an important part of the student experience. At The Ohio State University, all students must agree to sign the Financial Responsibility Statement before they register for classes. This agreement details the financial obligations that students will bear during their time at Trinity. The Financial Responsibility Statement also details what a student is responsible for while attending class. Once a student is enrolled at Trinity, they will be required to pay tuition and fees as indicated on the calendar.
If students do not settle their financial obligations, they will not receive their final report cards and may be held from enrolling in the school. The university will make every reasonable effort to contact students regarding any outstanding financial obligations. If the student does not pay, a citation may be filed against them and they will be required to repay the debt. This will affect their enrollment at the university, so it is essential that students adhere to the deadlines established by the school.
Workload
This study examined the workload of students in higher education institutions. It uses a case study approach, with questionnaires administered to students and academics at the Faculty of Education of Alexandria University. It incorporates qualitative and quantitative data. The questionnaires used were the same ones as those used for the Tuning Africa Project II. Students and academics were asked about the workloads of students in the second semester. The results showed that students and academics have different perceptions of workload.
The results indicate that students’ workloads are significantly different than academics’ estimations. The unstructured workloads of students ranged from 33 to 41 hours a week, while the total workload was 63 hours per week for years two and three. This equates to about 34 European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System credits in each semester. This study highlights the importance of determining workload levels for different degree programs. In addition, it also highlights the importance of setting clear reference points.
