In the United Kingdom, the term “student” is generally reserved for university students. However, “fresher” is often used informally to describe new students in their first year of study. Freshers’ week is usually filled with special events designed to welcome students. The word “finalist” is also used to describe students in their final year of study. Other terms are also used, depending on the school or college.
